NCP leader Anil Deshmukh sent to ED custody till 12 November
Bombay High Court remanded Maharashtra's former home minister, Nationalist Congress Party leader Anil Deshmukh, to Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till 12th November in connection with the money laundering case.
Mumbai: Bombay High Court remanded Maharashtra's former home minister, Nationalist Congress Party leader Anil Deshmukh, to Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till 12th November in connection with the money laundering case.
The agency is probing the Rs 100 crore extortion case against Deshmukh based on an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
He was arrested based on allegations levelled against him by the former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh. Singh has said Deshmukh was involved in several wrongdoings, including asking Sachin Waze, another suspended officer of Mumbai Police, to collect Rs 100 crore from bars and restaurants in the city every month.
Anil Deshmukh has been summoned by the ED after he was accused of corruption and bribery. It is also alleged that the leader collected 4.7 crore Rupees from various bars and restaurants in Mumbai, through police officer Sachin Waze who is now dismissed.
