AISA members detained, no arrests by Delhi Police in JNU violence case

New Delhi: Members of the All India Students Association (AISA) were detained by police on Monday for protesting outside Sardar Patel Bhawan against the scuffle that broke out between JNU Students' Union and BJP-affiliated ABVP.  But Delhi Police is yet to make arrests in connection with a scuffle occurred on Sunday.

JNU Students' Union alleged that ABVP members attacked them with rods, flower pots injuring students and two guards.  Also, the union blamed the police for not taking action despite intimating of possible violence in the evening itself.

"We met with Vasant Kunj ACP who assured us of action against them (ABVP), but no arrest has been made...They are only giving us assurances, no action is being taken. Even the JNU administration has not condemned the incident in a statement yet."

ABVP members.

Sarika a PhD student and former vice president of JNUSU said: "A scuffle broke out between two groups in JNU over allegedly eating non-vegetarian food ABVP has gone on the rampage in JNU as other students resisted their attempt to ban non-veg food. Around 50-60 people are injured."

However, ABVP denied the allegations by the JNUSU. They ruled the issue of 'non-veg' being the cause of the scuffle on the campus.

"It’s not a matter of chicken. Everyone is free to eat whatever they want. They (Left-wing students) are using chicken as an agenda. They attacked our workers. They were against the conduct of Ram Navami puja. We demand justice," said Rohit Kumar, ABVP's JNU wing President.
