Bengaluru: Pandemonium prevails in the Karnataka Legislative on Wednesday, both ruling Congress and Opposition Congress members have involved in a verbal fight over RDPR minister Eshwarappa’s remarks on hoisting of a saffron flag at Red Fort in Delhi by removing the National flag
House has also witnessed ‘unparliamentarily’ remarks from both Eshwarappa and KPCC President D.KShivakumar. Both leaders have virtually been in a verbal fight and calling names.
Eshwarappa’s comment against Shivakumar made him angry and he rushed to the treasury bench along with opposition members to confront Mr. Eshwarappa. Speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri has adjourned the House for lunch.
Moving adjournment notice against RDPR Minister K.S Eshwarappa for his statement of hoisting a saffron flag at Red fort, Opposition leader Siddaramaiah argued that the minister has committed sedition and he to be removed from the Cabinet.
Further Opposition leaders pressed that sedition charges should be registered against Eshwarappa for showing disrespect to the National flag.
While giving a statement on the hijab controversy, Mr. Eshwarappa said that the day will come the national flag was replaced with a saffron flag at Red fort.
His blatant statement has received widespread criticism from across the state.
Making a preliminary submission on adjournment motion notice, Mr. Siddaramaiah said, Chief Minister immediately remove Mr. Eshwarappa from his cabinet and registered the sedition charges against him, he stated.
“Minister who took oath under the Constitution, showing blatant disrespect to the National flag, how can he allowed to continue in the Cabinet. His statement attracts a sedition charge. Mr. Eshwarappa is anti-national”, Mr. Siddaramaiah criticized.
Minister who does not give respect to National flag, he has no moral right to continue as a minister in the cabinet, Opposition leader remarked.
At this stage, BJP legislators intervened, blaming Congress is spreading false news on the national flag. Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said that in Shivamogga, the saffron flag was not hoisted by lowering the National flag.
Both ruling and opposition Congress exchanged heated arguments. Speaker has said that before permitting to initiate debate on an adjournment motion, he would also seek the opinion of Eshwarappa, whether he was given such a statement or not.
However, Mr. Siddaramaiah opposed that why the should Chair ask Eshwarappa’s comment on the matter, he himself is accused in this case.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J.C. Madhuswamy pointed out that the matter will not come under the purview of adjournment motion. He requested the Speaker to reject the notice.
While Siddaramaiah arguing the matter, Mr. Shivakumar went to Siddarmaiah’s place and told him not to allow Eshwarappa to speak in this matter, it triggered the ruling members. Mr. Eshwarappa accused D.K.Shivakumar is anti-national, “I don’t want to hear the words of Shivakumar, he is anti-national and he went to jail for looting public property”, he accuses.
His charges, angered Mr. Shivakumar he rushed to Eshwarappa’s place to counter him. The ruckus prevails in the House, then-Speaker adjourns the House.
