Republic Day 2022: President approves 128 Padma Awards

Padma Awards - one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

New Delhi:  President approved conferment of 128 Padma Awards including 2 duo cases (in a duo case, the award is counted as one) on Wednesday. The list comprises four Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri Awards.  The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

Thirty-four of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 13 Posthumous awardees.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated all those who have been conferred the Padma awards. In a tweet, the Prime Minister said; "Congratulations to all those who have been conferred the Padma awards. The entire nation cherishes their accomplishments and we are all proud of their contributions to society."

Four Paralympic medalists including multiple medalist javelin thrower, Devendra Jhajharia, Tokyo Paralympics double medallist shooter Avani Lekhara, gold medallist javelin thrower Sumit Antil and gold winning para-shuttler Pramod Bhagat were among the nine sportspersons who were conferred with the Padma awards on Tuesday.
