Monsoon Tracker Live Updates: Heavy monsoon rains lashed several parts of India on Sunday (July 5, 2026), causing widespread disruption in Mumbai and prompting weather alerts across Kerala, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Delhi as the southwest monsoon intensified.
Mumbai was among the worst-affected cities after intense overnight rainfall forced the temporary suspension of runway operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for nearly an hour. Official data showed that many parts of the city received over 200 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, while some locations recorded close to 300 mm, leading to waterlogging and travel disruptions.
In eastern India, a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression, prompting Odisha to place all its districts on high alert. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is expected to cross the north Odisha coast between Chandbali and Digha within the next 24 hours, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha and neighbouring West Bengal.
Kerala continued to witness active monsoon conditions, with widespread rainfall reported across most districts. The IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts for several parts of the state, warning of heavy showers and possible weather-related disruptions.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand has been placed under a yellow alert from July 6 to July 9, with forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across all 24 districts.
Delhi also received widespread rainfall as monsoon activity strengthened over northern India, providing relief from the recent heat while affecting traffic in several areas.
