Pune court frames charges against 5 accused in Dabholkar murder case

Pune: Pune court has framed charges against five accused in the rationalist Narendra Dabholkar murder case on Wednesday.

The charges are framed under IPC sections 302 (murder), 120(b), 34 along with sec 16 of UAPA & sec 3(25), 27(1), 27(3) of Arms Act. Framing of charges against accused Sanjeev Punalekar to be done under section 201 IPC.

All five accused pleaded not guilty in the case. The court has also directed that the two accused Sharad Kalakar and Sachin Andure, lodged in Arthur Road Jail and Harsul Jail of Aurangabad respectively, to be shifted to Yerawada Central Prison in Pune.

The next hearing is on 30 September.

The prosecution and defence lawyers in the murder case began their arguments about the framing of charges eight years after rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar was shot dead in Pune.

Dabholkar, founder of Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS), was shot dead by two assailants on the V R Shinde bridge near Omkareshwar temple in Pune, on the morning of August 20 in 2013.
