Punjab Govt reduces prices of petrol by Rs. 10, diesel prices by Rs.5
Following BJP-ruled states' decision to reduce the duty on petro and diesel, the Punjab government on Sunday decided to reduce petrol and diesel prices to be effective from Sunday midnight.
Chandigarh: Following BJP-ruled states' decision to reduce the duty on petro and diesel, the Punjab government on Sunday decided to reduce petrol and diesel prices to be effective from Sunday midnight.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, said in a tweet, "Petrol and Diesel prices impact every household, industry and agriculture of the State. Taking a landmark historic decision, the Government of Punjab has reduced the Petrol prices by Rs. 10 and Diesel prices by Rs.5 per litre".
The Central government had reduced the excise duty on Petrol and Diesel by Rs. 5 and Rs. 10. Subsequently, the Centre urged States to commensurately reduce VAT on Petrol and diesel to give relief to consumers.
Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai had criticised the Congress over its stand to neither appreciate the BJP government’s decision to reduce taxes on fuel nor do its own ruled states follow suit.
Also, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia lashed out at the Congress, Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for not announcing tax cuts. “In Uttar Pradesh, chief minister, Yogi Adityanath has lowered the prices of petrol and diesel by ₹12, similarly in Gujarat and Assam prices have been reduced by ₹7. This is in addition to the cuts that were announced by the Union government,” Bhatia said, addressing the media on Friday.
