Dehradun: Pushkar Singh Dhami, who lost the Khatima seat in the Uttarakhand assembly elections, was elected as the leader of the Uttarakhand Bharatiya Janata Party Legislature Party (BJPLP) on Monday.
The decision comes the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting with Party senior leaders at his official residence regarding the formation of government in Uttar Pradesh, Goa, and Manipur.

BJP central leadership took much time to finalize CM candidates for Goa and Uttarakhand. It has announced N. Biren Singh as CM for Manipur state. However, in Goa and Uttarakhand, too many candidates are aspirants for the CM post. Incumbent Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and senior leader Vishwajit Rane are the contenders for the top post.
The BJP secured a historical landslide victory, winning 47 of the total 70 seats. It was the first time in the history of Uttarakhand when the ruling party came back to power in the state winning back-to-back assembly elections, although the incumbent Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lost his seat. The main opposition Indian National Congress bagged 19 seats, with their party leader Harish Rawat also losing from his seat once again.
