New Delhi: In mounting political pressure on Uttar Pradesh, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said he would visit the Lakhimpur Kheri to support the farmers' families.
Addressing a press conference at AICC HQ, Rahul Gandhi, said, "Today, with two CMs we will visit Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh to understand the situation there and support the farmers' families. Yes, Priyanka has been put under detention (in Sitapur) but this is a matter relating to the farmers."
"Farmers are being mowed down by a jeep, they're being murdered, the name of a union minister and his son is coming up in this incident (Lakhimpur Kheri). Yesterday PM Modi visited Lucknow but he didn't visit Lakhimpur Kheri. It's a systematic attack on farmers", he said.
On Lakhimpur Kheri violence, the Congress leader said, "It is your (media) responsibility to raise this issue, but when we ask questions, raise the issue, then, you (media) say that we are doing politics".
"Perpetrators can do what they want, be it rape or the murder of farmers; this is the new kind of politics prevalent in Uttar Pradesh which is perpetuated in an organised way."
