Mr. Shah reach out to the Jat leader, persuaded them to support BJP. He has visited the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan. He has taken door to door campaign in Vrindavan, later he will go to Mathura. Mathura will go for election on February 10.

Lucknow: To overcome its ‘unpopularity’ perception in Western Uttar Pradesh, which witnessed a yearlong protest by farmers against three controversial farm laws, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath campaigning in this region focusing on temple town Mathura.

Mr. Shah reach out to the Jat leader, persuaded them to support BJP. He has visited Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan. He has taken door to door campaign in Vrindavan, later he will go to Mathura. Mathura will go for election on February 10. 

The western UP has over 136 seats, the voting will be held in three of the seven phases.

In the 2017 Assembly elections, BJP has won 76 seats in Western UP. Jats are deciding factor in almost all the seats in western Uttar Pradesh, the region where the Rashtriya Lok Dal, or RLD, enjoys influence among the community. The RLD, led by former Prime Minister Charan Singh's grandson Jayant Chaudhary, has joined hands with Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party this time.

The RLD chief has chosen the "wrong home", Mr Shah said at a meeting with Jat leaders in Delhi.

Both Yogi Adityanath and his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya have recently made remarks about the revival of the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple.

"After Ayodhya and Kashi (Varanasi), can Vrindavan-Mathura be left behind?" Yogi Adityanath said at a rally in Mathura on December 29.

The election will be held in Uttar Pradesh in seven phases starting from February 10. Results will be declared on March 10.
