TATA takeover Air India: TATA Sons Chairman meets Modi
At present, Air India controls over 4,400 domestic and 1,800 international landing and parking slots at domestic airports as well as 900 slots abroad.
New Delhi: Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Tata group officially took over Air India from the government.
We are delighted that Air India is back to Tata group, we are committed to making this a world-class airline, Mr. Chandrashekaran said.
"The strategic disinvestment transaction of Air India successfully concluded today with transfer of 100 per cent shares of Air India to M/s Talace Pvt Ltd along with management control. A new Board, led by the Strategic Partner, takes charge of Air India," Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey stated.
In October 2021, the government had sold Air India to Talace Private Limited -- a subsidiary of the Tata group's holding company -- for ₹ 18,000 crore.
Tatas had won the bid, the Spicejet has offered ₹ 15,100-crore and the reserve price of ₹ 12,906 crore set by the government for the sale of its 100 per cent stake in the loss-making carrier.
