Ukraine President rejects US offer to evacuate Kyiv

Kyiv: Sending a stern message to US and western forces for not offering military help to him against the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zalenskyy now has rejected the offer of the US to evacuate Kyiv.

To the US, Zelenskyy said that the fight is here, I need ammunition and not ride. I will stay with my people and fight against Russian force, he reportedly told UN officials who approached him to leave the country.

Sources confirmed that Russian forces have struck Presidential residence in Kyiv. But Zelenskyy went to a bunker with his family and relatives.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has sanctioned USD 350 million to Ukraine for procurement of defence equipment and imparting military training and education.

The authorisation was also given to the secretary of state to sanction up to USD 250 million in assistance, if "it is important to the security interests of the United States," a Memorandum issued by the White House said.

Russia's space agency chief has warned the US that the slew of sanctions imposed on Moscow can "destroy our cooperation" on the International Space Station (ISS) and asked Washington if it wants to threaten India and China with the "possibility of a 500-tonne structure falling" on them. Russia and the US are the major partners in the ISS programme, which also includes Canada, Japan and several European nations like France, Italy and Spain, Times Now reported.

A high-rise apartment block was hit by shelling overnight in Kyiv as fighting raged between Russian attackers and Ukrainian forces, emergency services said Saturday. The authorities said the number of victims was "being specified" and that an evacuation was underway. Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said online that the building had been hit by a missile.
