Union Minister Smriti Irani faces awkward situation over price rise

New Delhi: Union Minister and BJP leader, Smriti  Irani who has been heavily trolled on social media for quite some time for her complete silence of sharply increasing prices of petrol, diesel and LPG during the Modi government, faced an awkward situation when a Congress member questioned her silence.

It may be noted that Smriti is being trolled by net users who are posting old pictures of Smriti where she was holding a protest against price rise when she was in opposition and the UPA government was in power.

Meanwhile, Congress women wing chief Netta D'Souza made Irani feel the heat on the issue of price rise. While both of them fight to Guwahati from Delhi, the D’Souza questioned the silence of the Minister for not raising a word on increasing the prices of LPG. Netta D'souza tweeted the video where the minister is also seen recording the encounter on her cell phone. In a tweet, D'souza said "Faced Modi Minister @smritiirani ji, en route to Guwahati. When asked about Unbearable Rising Prices of LPG, she blamed Vaccines, Raashan & even the poor! Do watch the video excerpts, on how she reacted to common people's misery!"

In the video, the Union Minister said while replying that the Congress leader was "blocking the way". Asked about the shortage of cooking gas and "stoves without gas", the minister said, "please don't lie". Irani also said the people are getting free rations for the last 29 months due to the pandemic."

Meanwhile, Congress is up against the ruling BJP and has staged nationwide protests against the Centre over the constant rise in the prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas, fertilizers and essential medicines.

Congress earlier also mocked Smriti Irani for not uttering a word over the issue, who used to hold protests over the petrol price hike when BJP was in opposition during the UPA II regime.
