UP police prevent Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to meet deceased farmers family
UP police have stopped Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra while she was heading towards to meet deceased family members of four farmers who were killed after the Union Minister's convoy vehicle run over to them.
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police allegedly pushed and manhandled her while she was headed to meet the families of four farmers killed during anti-farm laws protest in the state.
UP police have detained Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and slapped case under section 151 of IPC, (knowingly joins or continues in any assembly of five or more persons likely to cause a disturbance of the public peace). Congress leaders including Deepender Hooda condemned the police high handedness of detaining Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Four farmers were killed during visit of the Union Minister to the protest site. Four were killed when Minister’s convoy vehicle was rammed into the farmers. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said the violence in the Lakhimpur Kheri district started after the minister’s car rammed over the protesters, after the incident, the vehicle set on fire.
Congress tweeted that party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is being taken to Sitapur Police state, the party has told its workers to gather there.
UP police have confronted Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and stopped her to move to meet the farmers' family. Priyanka Gandhi told police to show a warrant or legal order restraining her to move forward, she also threatened to slap a kidnapping case against the police, who prevented her to proceed to meet the farmer's family. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s convoy was stopped at Sitapur.
Congress leader Deepender Hooda, who standing next to her, questioned the police action and how could he raise his hand against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Mr. Hooda has stood by his statement and said that he will prove his statement.
Rahul Gandhi tweeted in support of sister Priyanka Gandhi, underscoring that they will make farmers win.
"Priyanka, I know you won't back away - they are stunned by your courage. In this non-violent fight for justice, we will make the country's Annadata win," Rahul Gandhi tweeted.
