US President Biden warns of more economic sanctions on Russian politicians
The international media channels said that Biden will also be holding talks on NATO’s force posture on its eastern member states.
Continuing the American action to put more economic curbs on Russia following the war on Ukraine, US President Joe Biden’s government has announced to impose new sanctions against Russian politicians and oligarchs.
The international media channels said that Biden will also be holding talks on NATO’s force posture on its eastern member states.
During the meeting, he plans to discuss the contingency plans for the potential use of chemical or nuclear weapons by Russia.
Referring to US national security adviser Jake Sullivan, the media reports said that as the time when Biden headed to Europe.
Mentioning about the new sanctions, Sullivan said that during a G7 meeting, Biden and fellow leaders will give their consent on launching efforts for the coordinated implementations of the sanctions. This is mainly to weaken Russian efforts to evade existing sanctions.
Biden will also reveal the sanctions to be imposed on politicians and oligarchs.
The meeting will take up the matter for discussion on sanctions and also on managing China as the country reportedly supplying military assistance to Russia against the war on Ukraine.
Sullivan added that the US president will also consult on potential contingencies regarding potential cyberattacks or the use of chemical or biological weapons.
Sullivan has made this comment at a time when Russia has refused to rule out the possibility of the usage of nuclear weapons against Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has already announced that if the country faces ‘any threat to Russia, then it will not hesitate to use nuclear weapons.
The priorities during the summit will be “how we make sure that we’re continuing to support Ukraine and its effort to defend itself,” said Sullivan, according to the media reports.
He added that the leaders would ratify certain decisions taken by defence ministers last week, and task their military and political officials to chalk out a “longer-term” game plan for NATO’s force posture in eastern flank countries.
