Lucknow: In a surprising political development ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections in 2022, a BJP MP has urged the BJP national chief to consider fielding CM Yogi Adityanath from the Mathura assembly seat in the upcoming assembly polls.
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harnath Singh Yadav, who represents Uttar Pradesh, has written to party chief JP Nadda requesting him to consider fielding Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath from Mathura.
His request is likely to irk Shrikant Sharma sitting BJP MLA of Mathura and minister in the Yogi Cabinet. Sharma was rumoured to be in the race for chief ministership after the saffron party won 325 seats out of 403 in the 2017 assembly elections.
CM Yogi had resigned from his Gorakhpur seat and got elected unopposed to the Vidhan Parishad (Upper House) within six months after assuming power as chief minister.
In the upcoming elections, Yogi Adityanath has to decide whether to take the electoral plunge or to continue as an MLC in the Vidhan Parishad.
Mathura assembly seat has gained political importance following the successful completion of the Ayodhya and Kashi chapters of the Hindutva syllabus. According to the report, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has visited Mathura 18 times and sanctioned it with around 200 projects.
With the letter addressed to JP Nadda, the consensus is being built in the party to field Yogi from Mathura.
