Zelensky accuses Russia of hiding evidence of mass killings in Mariupol
Giving reason for his allegations, he said that the Russian forces are afraid that they could be exposed, thus it does not want the humanitarian aid to reach the needs in Mariupol.
Kyiv: Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has accused the Russian forces of hiding evidence that could prove that Russia has killed thousands of people in Mariupol city.
In an interview with a TV channel, he also alleged Russia of blocking humanitarian access to the besieged port city of Mariupol.
Giving reason for his allegations, he said that the Russian forces are afraid that they could be exposed, thus it does not want the humanitarian aid to reach the needs in Mariupol.
"I think it's a tragedy there, it's hell, I know that it's not tens, but thousands of people, different people, who have been killed there and thousands wounded," Zelensky said.
Making allegations he also expressed confidence Ukraine will expose Russia and the Russian forces will not succeed in their attempt to hide the evidence.
"They will not be able to hide all of this and bury all of these Ukrainians who died and who are injured. It's just such a number, it's thousands of people, it's impossible to hide" he remarked.
Zelensky said that Russia had already attempted to conceal evidence of crimes in the town of Bucha outside of Kyiv and several nearby communities, where Ukrainian officials have accused Moscow of carrying out widespread killings of civilians.
"They burned hundreds of families. We have found that they families have been buried with small children”, he said and described Russian forces as Nazis.
Asked about continuing peace talks with Russia, Zelensky said the process has not stopped and added that it will have to take place no matter what.
He however admitted without holding peace talks, it is difficult to stop the war.
“ I am saying that it has become tough for him to bring himself to continue talks with Moscow as he is fully aware of whom his country is dealing with.
