Patna: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court Patna on Wednesday convicted 9 out of 10 accused, one accused acquitted in the absence of evidence in 2013 Gandhi Maidan, Patna serial blasts case. The blasts had occurred at the venue of then prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s “Hunkar” rally.
Six people were killed and over 90 injured in the serial blasts that shook Patna, the capital city of Bihar on October 27, 2013. Prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, however, went ahead with the rally to calm nerves and prevent a stampede at the packed Gandhi Maidan.
The National Investigation Agency or NIA had filed a chargesheet against 10 people, including alleged activist of banned Students Islamic Movement of India or SIMI group Hyder Ali, in a court in Patna.
According to the chargesheet, the accused wanted to target Mr Modi as they thought that it would be inimical to their interests if he became the Prime Minister, and in pursuance of this conspiracy, Ali and his associates had conducted reconnaissance of various rallies to take stock of the security arrangements and plan for attacks.
