65 students from Kerala tested positive for COVID-19 in Kolar: Dr Sudhakar

Bengaluru: More than 65 students from Kerala have tested positive for COVID19 in a college in Karnataka's Kolar, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Thursday. 

The minister said the state government is taking action in this regard. Also, the state government has directed administrations of border districts to achieve 100% vaccination coverage in villages lying within 20km area of the state border with Kerala. 

Dr K Sudhakar said, "Yesterday [ Wednesday], we administered almost 12 lakh doses of the COVID19 vaccine in a single day.

Following COVid-19 cases in Kolar, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the government is taking all possible measures to prevent the spread of the virus. 

"We are vaccinating the population in districts bordering Kerala. Students/employees coming from Kerala have to quarantine for one week and do an RT-PCR test at the end of the 7-day quarantine.We're taking all possible measures to prevent spread of COVID", he said. 

As per the central government's report, Kerala is one state that has more than 1 lakh active COVID-19 cases. Four states have 10,000 to 1 lakh active cases - Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The rest of the states/UTs have less than 10,000 active cases.
