75th Independence Day: Burhan Wani's father hoists tricolour in Tral school

Srinagar: Muzaffar Ahmad Wani, father of Hizbul Mujahideen's slain terrorist Burhan Wani, hoisted the national flag at a government school in Tral of Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir on Independence Day.

Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces in July 2016 in South Kashmir. His killing had triggered a massive five-month agitation in Kashmir that left over 100 people dead and thousands injured. Wani was a key militant leader and had reportedly recruited numerous foot-soldiers through his personal efforts.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Manoj Sinha hoisted the National Flag at Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar. in his speech, Sinha encouraged people to work in tandem with administration for the development of a 'New J&K'.

Amrit Mahotsav celebrations in Jammu and Kashmir:

This is the third Independence Day celebration after Jammu and Kashmir became Union Territory.

As part of Amrit Mahotsav celebrations of Independence Day in Jammu and Kashmir various programmes are planned by the central government. A rally of “Run for Polythene Free Srinagar”, was flagged off by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, on August 7, 2021, from Lal chowk, Srinagar.

The rally of 600 participants including students, sportspersons and people from different walks of life passed through various areas of the city to generate awareness against the use of polythene with a prime objective to make Srinagar a Polythene-free zone.

Also, a Cyclothon event “Pedal for Dal” from the shores of the Dal lake in the run up to the Independence Day celebrations was flagged off  in which 200 boys and girls from different age groups along with professional cyclists participated.
