Adar Poonawalla, Mansukh Mandaviya discuss Covishield supply

New Delhi: Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawalla and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya discussed the supply of the Covishield vaccine on Friday.

After the meeting, Adar Poonawalla said, "We discussed ramping up vaccine production. More than 17 countries in Europe have already approved Covidshield and many are in line to give approval".

Mansukh Mandaviya appreciated SII's role in mitigating COVID-19 and assured continued Government support in ramping up vaccine production.

According to a study conducted by IIT researchers, the third wave of coronavirus is likely to hit India in August. Daily infections are likely to clock between one lakh to 1.5 lakh. Mathukumalli Vidyasagar and Manindra Agrawal researched IIT Hyderabad and IIT Kanpur, respectively. They developed a mathematical model to predict the rise in Covid-19 cases during the third wave in India.
