Rajendra Arlekar, 1st person from Goa to become Governor
Panjim: Rajendra Arlekar, Himachal Pradesh Governor designate, created history by becoming the first person from Goa to become Governor.
The President of India appointed Governors to eight states as per the press communique by the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar appointed as Governor of Himachal Pradesh. He has been appointed as 21st Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
Rajendra Arlekar told news agency ANI, "Nobody from Goa has become a Governor so far. I am happy that I am the first one. Destiny gave me this responsibility. What more can I say?"

Thanking the party leadership, Arlekar said, " I started as party worker, became MLA and Goa Minister and state BJP chief. Now I'll be Governor. It shows importance of leaders and leadership of BJP. Party leaders trusted me. President, PM, HM, BJP chief trusted me. It's a party that trusts."
Rajendra Arlekar was a Cabinet Minister in the BJP Government of Goa and a former speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
He has been associated with the Rashtriya Swyam Sevak Sangh (RSS) since his childhood. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1989.
