PM Modi to hold crucial meet today, reports hint at Cabinet expansion
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a crucial meet at his residence on Tuesday following rumours of likely Cabinet expansion. Speculations over the Cabinet expansion has gathered pace after the appointment and reshuffle of governors to eight states on Tuesday.
Union Minister Thawarchand Gehlot, 83, will take over as Governor of Karnataka. He was Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha leader.
His appointment as Governor creates a vacancy in the government just before the cabinet changes.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leaders Sarbananda Sonowal, Narayan Rane and Jyotiraditya Scindia are reportedly headed to Delhi.
The buzz over the cabinet expansion exercise has been gathering momentum for the first time after the Modi government was voted back to power in 2019.
From BJP-ruled Karnataka, several names doing rounds in the likely cabinet expansion. According to reports, BY Raghavendra, son of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Chitradurga MP A Narayan Swamy, Bagalkote MP PC Gaddigoudar, and Haveri MP Shivakumar Udasi are likely to be inducted into the cabinet.
