Naypyidaw: American journalist Danny Fenster, who is Managing Editor of Frontier Myanmar magazine, was sentenced to 11 years in prison on three charges on Friday. 

According to Frontier Myanmar, the decision was announced this morning at a court inside Yangon's Insein Prison, following a trial that was closed to the public.

 'The sentences imposed were the harshest possible under the law", said the company in a tweet. 

Danny was convicted under S.505-A of the Penal Code, S.17(1) of the Unlawful Associations Act and S.13(1) of the Immigration Act. He received a 3-year sentence for the 505-A charge, 3 years for the 17(1) charge and 5 years for the 13(1) charge, as well as a K100,000 fine.

Fenster was on trial for allegedly encouraging dissent against the military, unlawful association and breaching immigration law, in addition to this the journalist is also facing new charges of terrorism and sedition, his lawyers told AFP news agency on Wednesday.
