Amid border row with China, Amit Shah to visit Arunachal Pradesh, launch programmes along LAC

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Arunachal Pradesh on April 10 and 11 where he will launch 'Vibrant Villages Programme' in Kibithoo, a village along the India-China border.Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Arunachal Pradesh on April 10 and 11 where he will launch the 'Vibrant Villages Programme' in Kibithoo, a village along the India-China border.

The visit comes in the wake of a row over the country's international borders with China. Though, recently, Army chief General Manoj Pandey, at India Today Conclave, said the situation was stable, he, however, admitted there was a need to keep a "close" tab.

The Centre has approved the 'Vibrant Villages Programme' (VVP) to the tune of Rs 4,800 crore, including Rs 2,500 crore exclusively for road connectivity for fiscal years 2022-23 to 2025-26, the home ministry stated on Saturday.

The VVP is a centrally sponsored scheme wherein 2,967 villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts abutting the northern border in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh have been identified for comprehensive development.

In the first phase, 662 villages, including 455 in Andhra Pradesh, have been identified for priority coverage.

The VVP aims at improving the quality of life of locals in identified border villages and encourages the people living in those areas to remain native to their locations and roots. It also aims at checking out-migration from these villages and adding to the security at border areas.
