Anti-Muslim slogans at Jantar Mantar: Delhi Police arrests Ashwini Upadhyay, 5 others
New Delhi: Ex-Delhi BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay and fiver others are arrested by Delhi Police in connection with alleged inflammatory and anti-Muslim slogans at Jantar Mantar on Sunday.
Earlier, all six people- Ashwini Upadhyay, Vinod Sharma, Deepak Singh, Vinit Kranti, Preet Singh, Deepak were detained by the Police, reported news agency ANI.
The Police further said that Police is handling the matter as per law, and any communal disharmony will not be tolerated. The police has registered a case under sections 153A and 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police detained all six people after a video showing anti-Muslim slogans being raised during a protest at Jantar Mantar started doing the rounds on social media platforms. Hundreds of people had attended the protest which Bharat Jodo Aandolan organised at Jantar Mantar on Sunday.
In a video statement shared on Twitter, Ashwini Upadhyay said veracity of the video will be clear after the probe. However, he also said that this is an attempt to malign him and Bharat Jodo Aandolan. Ashwini Upadhyay has tagged Delhi Police Commissioner, Union Home Minister and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
