Bhima Koregaon case: Sudha Bharadwaj walks out of jail after 3 years in custody

Mumbai: Lawyer and activist Sudha Bharadwaj walked out of jail on Thursday after spending three years in custody since being arrested in the Bhima Koregaon case in 2018.
Sudha Bharadwaj, the first default bail recipient in the Bhima Koregaon case of 2018, has been released from Byculla Women’s prison on bail.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Mumbai had ruled that Sudha Bharadwaj is to be released from jail on a cash bond of Rs 50,000 with one or more sureties. The judge also said that the order would be issued after receiving the necessary documents and verification.
Sudha Bharadwaj is a trade unionist, activist and lawyer who has lived and worked in tribal areas of Chhattisgarh for over three decades. She is an active member of the Chhattisgarh Mukti Morcha (Mazdoor Karyakrta Committee).
What is Bhima Koregaon case?
The 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence refers to violence during an annual celebratory gathering on 1 January 2018 at Bhima Koregaon to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon. The violence and stone-pelting by the crowd at the gathering resulted in the death of a 28-year old youth and injury to five others.
