BJP MP Varun Gandhi again tweets against UP govt,   shares video of farmers killing

New Delhi: Protesting farmers and opposition leaders have been getting support from an unexpected corner, as BJP MP of Piliphit constituency Varun Gandhi was the first ruling party leader condemning the killing of four farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri violence by sharing a video of an SUV ran over the farmers.

Since one year farmers are protesting against farm laws, urging the Centre to repeal all three farm laws. However, BJP and RSS have termed protesting farmers are Khalistanis. The dissent voice of ruling party MP that too, sibling of Gandhi family bring embracement to BJP government at Centre.

Mr. Varun Gandhi was the first leader who shared the controversial video of an SUV ran over the farmers. On October 5, Mr. Varun Gandhi tweeted that "In Lakhimpur, the video that shows cars running over farmers will shake anyone's soul. Police should take note of this video and identify the owners of the car, those sitting in the car, and others involved to make immediate arrests," the BJP MP from UP's Pilibhit said in a tweet in Hindi.

Soon after he shared the video, Congress and other opposition parties leaders shared the same and staged a protest against the UP government.

Further Mr. Varun Gandhi did not stop his tirade against the Yogi Adityanath government. He tweeted that "The video is crystal clear. Protestors cannot be silenced through murder. There has to be accountability for the innocent blood of farmers that has been spilled and justice must be delivered before a message of arrogance and cruelty enters the minds of every farmer”.

BJP’s MP dissent voice has made opposition leaders encouraged to make a scathing attack against the Centre and UP government. Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi alleged that the attack on farmers was intentional. Congress has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP chief minister should take responsibility for the attack against farmers, in which Union Minister’s son was allegedly involved.

Besides his sharp reaction against the ruling dispensation at the Centre and UP government, Mr. Varun Gandhi demanded the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ask for a CBI probe and ₹ 1 crore compensation for the dead farmers' families.

During Gandhi Jayanti, Mr. Varun Gandhi in his tweets criticized RSS-affiliated right-wing associations and groups for praising Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.

On October 2, Mr. Varun Gandhi tweeted that “India has always been a spiritual superpower, but it is the Mahatma who articulated our nation’s spiritual underpinnings through his being & gave us a moral authority that remains our greatest strength even today. Those tweeting ‘Godse zindabad’ are irresponsibly shaming the nation”.

His recent tweets and stand clearly show that Piliphit MP is slowly distancing himself from BJP and does not hesitate to condemn the anti-farmers policies of his government at the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government.
