Bommai fails to ensure ‘balanced’ cabinet
B. ARAVINDA SHETTY
Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has failed to keep his ‘promise’ to provide caste and regional balance in his Cabinet. Thirteen districts have been unrepresented in the Cabinet.
Before meeting with party central leaders, Mr. Bommai has assured that he would give a balanced cabinet by giving representation to all regions and castes.
However, the chief minister has given lion shares to major communities 8 Lingayats, 7- OBCs, 7 Vokkaliga, 3 SCs , 2 Brahmins, and 1 ST community. As usual, Lingayats gets a lion share in the Cabinet, including the Chief Minister, Ligayats got nine seats in the Cabinet to keep its vote bank intact. Like Vokkaliga and OBCs get equal share in the Cabinet, compared to the previous BSY government, both Vokkaliga and OBC share has been increased in Bommai cabinet.
However, the Chief Minister has accommodated only 3 Scheduled Caste and 1 Scheduled Caste MLA in his Cabinet. Since one decade, large considerable SC (left subsect) community supporting the saffron party. Considering the community support to the party, it has not adequate representation in the Cabinet. Community MLA from Haveri constituency, Neharu Olekar confident of getting inducted into Cabinet, but the party did not consider his name.
Three ministers from SC community in BSY cabinet were Govinda Karjol, S.Angara and Prabhu Chawan will continue in the Bommai cabinet. Interestingly, the party has dropped Mahadevapura MLA and party SC face, Aravinda Limbavali, from the Cabinet.
