Centre briefed all party leaders on Afghan crisis

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has briefed all party leaders on the Afghanistan crisis and the Indian evacuation mission to bring stranded Indian nationals from Kabul. 

Taliban militants have captured Kabul on August 15th evening; soon after Taliban enters the Kabul, thousands of citizens have started leaving the country. India has airlifted around 730 people, including members of the Afghan Sikh and Hindu communities from war-torn Country. 

Along with Mr. Jaishankar, the Union Minister and leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi were present during the briefing in the Parliament annex here on Thursday.

NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Congress party in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, DMK's TR Baalu, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, Apna Dal's Anupriya Patel are some of the leaders attending the crucial meet.

Before floor leaders meet, Mr. Jaishankar said in a tweet, “In view of developments in Afghanistan, PM Narendra Modi has instructed that MEA brief Floor Leaders of political parties. Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Prahlad Joshi will be intimating further details.”

Besides India's evacuation mission from Afghanistan, the ministers are also expected to share the government's assessment of the situation in the war-torn country.
