Congress is not opposing inclusion of Bhagavad Gita in curriculum: Siddaramaiah
Congress is very much cautious about BJP's decision of imparting Bhagavad Gita in schools. Opposition leader Siddaramaiah said that party is not against teaching moral science to the students including Bhagavad Gita
Bengaluru: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah has reacted to the state government’s announcement of introducing the Hindu holy book "Bhagavad Gita" in the moral science classes by next year.
"We're not against moral precepts," he remarked. We support the constitution and secularism. We have no objections to them teaching the Bhagavad Gita, the Quran, or the Bible. So far, the Karnataka government has not made a decision on teaching the Bhagavad Gita," he said.
K Rahman Khan, a senior Congress leader, remarked that the BJP has a "vested interest." He also stated that every religious book teaches Dharma, so you can't declare that just the Gita teaches 'Dharma' and Indian culture. Students should be taught about all religious books. The BJP has a vested interest. The new education policy is nothing more than a ruse to incorporate Hindutva ideology into the curriculum."
BC Nagesh, Karnataka's Education Minister, has stated that the Bhagavad Gita will be included in the curriculum, similar to Gujarat. There is nothing wrong with recommending a religious book, but India is a diverse society with many religions, said K Rahman Khan.
Initiating the discussion over the introduction of 'Bhagavad Gita', State Education Minister BC Nagesh said the Gita is meant for all religions.
BC Nagesh said "Bhagavad Gita is not only for Hindus, it is for all. If experts say it will definitely be introduced, - not this year but next year. We have to decide whether Moral Science has to be introduced".
The minister said the matter would be discussed with chief minister Basavaraj Bommai whether to implement the new course from the next academic year.
"We're going to speak to our CM about whether we're going to introduce Moral Science, consulting with him we want to introduce it in next academic yr. What gives an impact on the children will be introduced-whether it is Bhagavad Gita, Ramayan and Mahabharat".
