Jaishankar calls India's Afghan evacuation missions 'Operation Devi Shakti'
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called the evacuation mission of Indians from Afghanistan as 'Operation Devi Shakti'.
Today, AI 1956 is enroute to Delhi from Tajikistan's capital Dushanbe carrying 78 passengers, including 25 Indian nationals. Evacuees were flown in from Kabul on an IAF aircraft.
India has pressed Indian Air Force (IAF) and Air India into evacuating Indians after the Taliban took over Afghanistan last week. The Government of India is currently focused on the safe return of Indian nationals from Afghanistan.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, "Our focus is on ensuring security in Afghanistan and the safe return of Indian nationals".
India on Sunday evacuated 392 people, including 107 Indians, from Kabul in an IAF military aircraft. A few days back Indian government has evacuated 135 Indians from Kabul to Doha.
According to AFP report, the Taliban have warned that there would be "consequences" if the United States and its allies try to remain in Afghanistan beyond next week, as Washington ramped up its efforts to evacuate tens of thousands of people desperate to flee.
