Former cricketer Dinesh Mongia joins BJP
Mongia has played for the Indian side from 2001 to 2007.
New Delhi: Ahead of Punjab Assembly Elections, former cricketer Dinesh Mongia joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi. Mongia has played for the Indian side from 2001 to 2007.
After joining the partym, Mongia said, "I want to serve the people of Punjab by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. Today, there is no other party that can work better than the BJP for the development of the country."
Mongia made his ODI debut in 2001 against Australia and last played in the September 2006 tri-series against Australia and West Indies in Malaysia. Mongia in the first Indian cricketer to play a T20 match. He played for Lancashire in 2004.
Mongia has joined the league of cricketers-turned-politicians. Navjot Singh Sidhu, Mohammad Azharuddin, Kirti Azad, and Gautam Gambhir are a few prominent cricketers who joined politics.
