BJP veteran Kalyan Singh no more, mortal remains being taken to Aligarh
Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Governor and senior BJP leader Kalyan Singh passed away due to sepsis and multi-organ failure on Saturday. He was 89.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tribute to former Kalyan Singh's residence at Mall Avenue in Lucknow to pay his last respects.
PM Modi has expressed deep grief over the passing away of Kalyan Singh. In his condolence message, PM Modi said, "I am saddened beyond words. Kalyan Singh Ji…statesman, veteran administrator, grassroots level leader and great human. He leaves behind an indelible contribution towards the development of Uttar Pradesh. Spoke to his son Shri Rajveer Singh and expressed condolences. Om Shanti."

He was firmly rooted in Indian values and took pride in our centuries-old traditions. Kalyan Singh Ji gave voice to crores of people belonging to the marginalised sections of society. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid his respects to late CM Kalyan Singh at the latter's residence at Mall Avenue in Lucknow. Uttarakhand Government declared a one-day state mourning today, following Kalyan Singh's demise. The national flag will be flown at half-mast.
Kalyan Singh's mortal remains kept in Vidhan Sabha, where people paid last respects till 1 pm; later shifted to BJP office till 2:30 pm.
His mortal remains will be taken to Aligarh where people will be able to pay last respects at the stadium. From there mortal remains will be taken to Atrauli. He'll be cremated tomorrow at banks of river Ganga in Narora.
Kalyan Singh had resigned as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister immediately following the demolition. Then President Shankar Dayal Sharma also dismissed the Uttar Pradesh government on the same day. Along with other BJP stalwarts like LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, Kalyan Singh was charged with conspiracy over the incident. Last year, a Lucknow court acquitted Singh and others in the case.
