Fuel price hike: Congress calls nationwide protest against BJP on March 31

Opposition Congress party will hold a nationwide protest on March 31 for Centre's decision of increase fuel prices. The grand old party, which has been relentless in its criticism of the current BJP government for rising fuel prices, has demanded that the increase be reversed.

According to Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, on March 31 at 11 a.m., people will protest outside their houses and in public areas with garlanded cylinders and thumping drums, bells, and other instruments to call the attention of the deaf BJP administration and demand that the hike be reversed.
Petrol and diesel prices were raised by 80 paise per litre on Saturday, the fourth increase in five days, as oil companies passed on the increase in raw material costs to customers.
The Congress party's campaign appears to have been influenced by the BJP's initiative, which took place during the nationwide COVID lockdown. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the public to cheer and beat utensils to show gratitude to healthcare staff after imposing a stricter lockdown to contain the spread of novel Coronavirus. People who had been confined to their houses for days due to the lockdown emerged on their balconies and porches within minutes and attempted to bolster the spirit of health professionals by drumming spoons and gongs.
The Congress Party alleged that the BJP government of generating 26 lakh crore in eight years by raising excise duties on fuel. Between March 31 and April 7, the party has announced a "Mehngai Mukt Bharat Abhiyan," a three-phase protest against rising fuel costs across the country.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the BJP administration, by posting on Twitter saying, "King plans for a palace, while subjects languish from inflation."
