Panaji: Former union minister and Goa chief minister late Manohar Parrikar's son Utpal Parrikar has raised the claim to contest from Panaji seat in the upcoming assembly elections.
BJP is likely to give ticket incumbent MLA Atanasio Monserrate. He is a three-term member of the Goa Legislative Assembly. He was one of the ten members of the Indian National Congress who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in July 2019.
Utpal Parrikar has raised his voice asserting that he would not sit quietly if the BJP gives the party ticket for the Panaji constituency to incumbent legislator Atanasio Monserrate.
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut in Mumbai said, "Manohar Parrikar contributed to Goa's development, but his family faced disrespect after his demise. Utpal Parrikar, his son, must be given a ticket from Panaji. Every political party contesting polls must support him and bring him to power."
Polls will be held in Goa on 14 February 2022 to elect 40 members of the Goa Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 10 March 2022.
