IAF mi-17 crash: five dead, rescue operation continues
Coonoor: In a horrifying incident, an IAF mi-17 helicopter crashed at Coonoor situated near hilly Nilgiri district, carrying Chief Defence Staff Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat.
Initial report received that total of 14 members were on board. Defence sources said that four people have died and four people have been rescued with more than 80 percent burn injuries.
The injured has been taken to Wellington hospital. The crash took place at 12.13 pm. The exact reasons are yet to ascertain for the crashes. The exact place of the crash site is Catri village near Coonoor.
Indian Air Force has ordered for enquiry for a crash. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence minister Rajanath Singh closely monitor the development, taking a minute to minute updates of the defence However no official confirmation from the defence regarding the safety of CDS and his wife.
Sources of defence said that crash site is horrifying, chances of survival are very less. Tamil Nadu forest minister said that a total of five people have died and bodies have been recovered from the crash site.
Defence minister Rajanath Singh will brief parliament since the winter session is on. Very shortly he will brief in the Parliament after taking official confirmation from the defence.
