India's second innings ended as they were all out for 174 runs on Day 4 and the host lost 4 crucial wickets on the same day while chasing. The Indian side had set the target of 305-run to victory.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami took three wickets each and Mohammed Siraj and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin scalped two wickets each in the second inning of South Africa.
The series will next head to Johannesburg for the second Test before concluding with the final Test in Cape Town.

The India cricket team are touring South Africa from December 2021 and January 2022 to play three Tests and three One Day International (ODI) matches. The Test matches will form part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship, and the ODI series will form part of the 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
