Modi showed interest to have alliance with NCP: Sharad Pawar
After the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Shiv Sena parted ways with BJP over the issue of sharing the Chief Ministerial post.
Pune: Nationalist Congress Party patriarch Sharad Pawar has disclosed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted an alliance with NCP after the 2019 Assembly elections in Maharashtra.
Sharad Pawar said that he has told the PM Modi that an alliance between BJP and NCP is not possible. Reacting to the statement of Pawar, Shiv Sena MP, Sanjay Raut, his party shares power with NCP and Congress in Maharashtra, claimed that after the debacle of 2019 polls, BJP was desperate for power and ready to an alliance with any party.
After the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Shiv Sena parted ways with BJP over the issue of sharing the Chief Ministerial post. Then Uddhav Thackeray has forged an alliance with NCP and Congress, formed Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in the state.
During an event organized by Marathi daily Loksatta, Sharad Pawar was asked that after the 2019 Assembly elections, he apparently told the Prime Minister and Union Minister Amit Shah that NCP and BJP could come together if the BJP replaced Devendra Fadnavis as Chief Minister.
For this question, Sharad Pawar said it was true that he and PM Modi held a meeting. It was the Prime Minister’s wish that we NCP and BJP come together.
I went to his (PM's) office and told him it was not possible. I told him that we do not want to keep him in the dark. Our stand is different," Sharad Pawar replied.
However, Prime Minister has requested Maratha strongman to think over about alliance with BJP in Maharashtra.
