Maharashtra -Karnataka agrees to mitigate flood situation in Krishna basin
Bengaluru. Karnataka and Maharashtra government has agreed to cooperate each other to regulate and manage flood situation in both the states.
The Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa held a meeting with the Water Resources Minister of Maharashtra Jayant Patil and department officials here on Saturday, discussed cooperating to manage flood situations at Krishna and Bhima basin of both states.
Both state government has agreed to establish better coordination and communication with the secretary and lower-rung officials of both the state government on managing flood situations at Bhima and Krishna rivers basin.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting with Mr. Patil and his officials, Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa said that both the state government has agreed to share the details of rainfall and water level in the reservoirs of Krishna and Bhima rivers, he said and added that Mr. Patil has agreed to complete ongoing Doodh Ganga project within two years, this project will fetch the drinking water to the people residing in that region and it was the longstanding demand of the people.
Doodh Ganga is the projects of both the states and decided to complete this project as early as possible.
Both governments have agreed to constitute a technical committee to sharing of 4 tmc water to Karnataka from Maharashtra during summer and giving the same quantity of water to Maharashtra during the rainy season.
Mr. Patil said that both the state officials have agreed to cooperate each other to mitigate the flood. In 2019, both the states have experienced unprecedented floods, that time we both managed well in mitigating flood. Today’s meeting to lead better understanding between both the states, Maharashtra has real-time data of Krishna basin and same will be shared to Karnataka up to Narayanapura dam. That will help both the states to manage the water level in the reservoirs of both the states. It would also help to manage the flood situations on both sides, he said.
Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka Chief Secretary P. Ravikumar, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM, Dr. E.V. Ramana Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh, and Water Resources department officials of Karnataka were present.
