Modi may respond to Pakistan's provocations: US Congress

New Delhi: Asserting that the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to respond more fiercely to Pakistan’s provocations, the American intelligence community has reportedly informed the US Congress that the Modi government may retaliate in a stronger manner to Pakistan.

This was reportedly mentioned in the annual threat assessment of the US Intelligence Community which was released by the Office of Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

The increasing military operations by India and China along the line of control have increased the risk of more confrontation between two nations that have nuclear powers.

The report seeks US intervention in deescalating the tension as the conflict may have a direct impact on the interests of the US.

It said that the conflict between India and Pakistan is indeed a matter of worry. Stating that Pakistan has a long history of harbouring terror outfits and helping them create problems for India, the reports states that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has higher chances of responding with military force to perceived or real Pakistani provocations.

The tension created on either side will only escalate the risk of conflict that could cause violent unrest in Kashmir.

On the relationship between India and China, the report said that the relationship will remain unfriendly.

In the past, the standoffs between the two nations did not lead to higher conflicts on LACs, but now the situation may not remain the same.

The matter only escalated when soldiers of both nations had a deadly fight in the Galwan Valley in 2020. The military operations have increased on either side of the borders of both nations.
