India begins final leg of 'Operation Ganga'

Kyiv: The Indian embassy has begun its last leg of 'Operation Ganga'- evacuation of Indians from war-hit Ukraine. 

In an urgent advisory, the embassy of India has said that India begins its final leg of 'Operation Ganga' flights today and asked all the students staying in their own accommodations (Other than arranged by the embassy) to reach Hungary city centre in Budapest between 10 am-12 pm. 

In a tweet, the Indian embassy in Hungary stated,  “Important Announcement: Embassy of India begins its last leg of Operation Ganga flights today. All those students staying in their OWN accommodation ( other than arranged by Embassy) are requested to reach  @Hungariacitycentre, Rakoczi Ut 90, Budapest between 10 am-12 pm”.

Seeing this tweet, many netizens have expressed their ire, and many were in doubt, one of the Twitter users asked to clarify on the Tweet saying “Seeing comments below it seems many have doubt. So please clarify. Is it the last leg of Operation Ganga flights from Hungary only or it is the last leg of Operation Ganga from all countries?.”

The Indian embassy in Ukraine has asked all the Indian nationals who are still stranded to fill up the details and attached a Google form and asked them to make it quick. It is said that lots of Indians are still stuck in Sumy and Twitter users requesting the authorities to evacuate them.

About 3000 Indians have been airlifted by 15 special flights from Ukraine’s neighbouring countries on Saturday. These included 12 special civilian and 3 IAF flights, according to statement issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Under ‘Operation Ganga’  more than 13 thousand 7 hundred Indians have been brought back since the special flights began on 22nd February 2022.
