India played its 500th match in 2002 and two decades later would reach the milestone of playing 1000 ODIs.

Bengaluru: The Indian cricket team is going to create a unique history against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. 

The reason is, men in blue are playing their 1000th One Day International match. 

Team India will become the first team in the world to feature in 1000 ODIs. Rohit Sharma will lead India in the historical ODI match.  

India's legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, congratulated Team India and BCCI for the monumental feat. He said, "Many congratulations to Team India and BCCI, for this,  monumental milestone of 1000 ODIs! It’s been a wonderful journey all these years for players, fans and everyone associated with the game."

Meanwhile, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly in an interview with PTI has said that there won’t be any elaborate celebrations during the 1000th ODI because the BCCI needs to maintain the Covid-19 protocols.
