Controversial religious leader Kalicharan Maharaj, who was arrested in December by Chhattisgarh police for making derogatory statements against Mahatma Gandhi, stated on Saturday that he has no regrets and stands by what he said.
"I stand by what I said. I stated it carefully and without hesitation, and I have no regrets. "I hate the person who spoke negatively about great men like Chattarapati Shivaji Maharaj, Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj, and Rana Pratap, and I have no remorse," Kalicharan Maharaj says in a video released by news agency ANI.
On December 30, Chhattisgarh police detained Kalicharan Maharaj for reportedly making disrespectful statements against Mahatma Gandhi. The religious leader was arrested along with others in Madhya Pradesh's Khajuraho district.
During a public 'Dharm Sansad' event in Raipur, the saint allegedly made controversial words against Mahatma Gandhi and hailed his assassinator Nathu Ram Godse.
Following that, the police filed a FIR in Tikrapara Police Station under Sections 505(2) and 294 of the Indian Penal Code. Later, Pune police filed a FIR against Kalicharan Maharaj for allegedly delivering a hate speech on December 19 at the Shivpratap Din programme.
Kalicharan was granted bail by a Chhattisgarh court on Friday, three months after his arrest on charges of sedition.
