Bengaluru: In a scathing attack on Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, the former Chief Minister H.D.Kumraswamy given a one-month deadline to the Chief Minister to resolve the ongoing 'communal hatredness' of right-wing groups against Muslims in the state.
Mr. Kumaraswamy questioned the 'guts' of the Chief Minister not restraining right-wing groups, campaigning not to buy Halal meat from Muslim traders and urging Muzari department-owned temples not allow Muslims to trade business during temple fairs.
Vishwa Hindu Parishat and Sri Rama Sene resorted to anti-social activities. Halal campaigning in Karnataka will make an adverse impact on the farming community. If same situation continues in the state, farmers will suffer and no Muslim traders will come forward to procure agricultural produce from the farmers, Mr. Kumaraswamy said and urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter and stop 'unruly' right-wing groups in the state.
Karnataka is witnessing back to back communal issues after Hijab, the statement by BJP General Secretary CT Ravi urging Hindus in the state to boycott Halal meat, claiming that it was economic jihad. The issue is raging across the state. Various Hindu leaders have supported Ravi’s statement, and they are distributing pamphlets and other literature among Hindus to boycott Halal meat.
The Muslim community is facing repeated contentious remarks from Hindu leaders, and former CM HD Kumaraswamy came to the support of the minority community and questioned the state government's "silence" on the escalating efforts by extremist right-wing organisations to "marginalise a specific population."
He stated that it is the state government's responsibility to protect the state's 6.50 crore people. It is the state government's responsibility to defend all communities. They just can't run the government while focusing solely on one community. He also asked the state administration to take tough measures against religious extremist groups attempting to foment communal unrest in the state.
HD Kumaraswamy chastised the government for being a quiet spectator in this matter. He even referred to CM Bommai as a "puppet" in the hands of specific organisations.
Kumaraswamy claimed that the CM is concerned about his seat and that in order to save it, he is following whatever instructions are given to him by them.
He questioned the state government's lack of action on the matter. "What has the government done in response to all of these developments?" They have made no decision on any of this.
Boycott Halal resounded in Lok Sabha
The matter was also brought to the notice of the Lok Sabha by BSP MP Kunwar Danish Ali. He said that intolerance in India is growing. He alleged that the BJP is dividing the nation along the lines of religion. He also raised the recent issue of Muslims not being allowed to open shops in religious fairs in Karnataka. He said who are they to decide who will open shops in Karnataka and who won’t? He charged the BJP is dividing the people.
Biocon Chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw tagged CM Basavaraj Bommai on Twitter on Wednesday and urged him to address the state's "increasing religious rift." For this, Bommai replied that everyone's cooperation is required to maintain peace and order.
