Lakhimpur Kheri violence: SC asks UP govt to reply on probe into journo's death
The Supreme Court Tuesday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to file replies on the investigation on the killing of a journalist Raman Kashyap and one Shyam Sundar in Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court Tuesday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to file replies on the investigation on the killing of a journalist Raman Kashyap and one Shyam Sundar in Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
The apex court also asked forensic labs to expedite the process of submitting reports relating to videos of the incident.
The Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to provide protection to the witnesses in the incident and that statements of witnesses are recorded expeditiously. The next hearing is scheduled for November 8.

The accused Ashish Mishra and his father Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni have denied all charges. Ashish Mishra was first remanded to police custody on October 11. After the expiry of his first remand period, he was sent back to the Lakhimpur Jail under judicial custody.
The minister's son is accused of mowing down four farmers who are peacefully protesting for the visit of the UP deputy chief minister to Lakhimpur Kheri. The SUV owned by Ashish Mishra allegedly mowed down the protesting farmers. In the ensuing violence total of eight people were killed, including four farmers.
