Lakhimpur violence: Ashish Mishra, Son of MoS Home, arrives at Crime Branch office

Lakhimpur: Son of MoS Home Ajay Mishra Teni, Ashish Mishra arrived at the Crime Branch office, Lakhimpur, on Saturday.  He was summoned by UP Police in connection with Lakhimpur violence.

"We will respect the notice and will cooperate in the investigation. Ashish Mishra will appear before the police today, " Awadhesh Kumar, legal advisor of Ashish Mishra, told news agency ANI.

The state police have filed a case of murder against Ashish Mishra but have not arrested him so far. Ajay Mishra Teni, the Union Minister admits the SUV that ran over farmers belongs to him but he maintains his son was not in it.

The UP cops have issued notice to Ashish Mishra under Section 160 CrPC, which concerns the attendance of witnesses. Legal experts have questioned the notice issued under this section to an accused in a murder case. However, police sources say that a person summoned under Section 160 CrPC can also be arrested based on their statements.

Despite registering FIR against Ashish Mishra on Monday, the police did not take any action, after the Supreme Court taking cognizance of the matter and directing the UP government to submit a status report about the case, the police have swung into action by summoning the minister’s son for questioning.
