M.B.Patil meets BSY: Seeks financial assistance for irrigation project
Bengaluru: Congress leader and former minister M.B. Patil met the Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa here on Friday, requesting financial assistance to provide irrigation to the drought-hit villages of Indi taluk.
Mr. Patil requested the Chief Minister to release grants to provide irrigation to drought-hit villages of Indi taluk by filling 16 tanks from the Krishna river through Tidagundi.
Sources in bjp said that Patil’s meeting with Chief Minister is more than meet the eye. When he was the minister, Mr. Patil has taken the lead to seek separate religion status for Lingayat. Then chief minister Siddaramaiah has taken a decision to accord separate lingayat status to the community and written letter to the Centre in this regard.
Mr. Yediyurappa also indirectly supported the cause of separate religion status. When he was the Chief Minister, Mr. Yediyurappa has written a letter to the then-UPA government requesting to accord separate religion status. More than 40 BJP MLAs have signed the memorandum, Mr.Yediyurappa has forwarded the same to the Centre. However, Mr. Yediyurappa had opposed the move of Siddaramaiah headed Congress government for its initiation to accord separate religion status to the Lingayats.
