The dismal performance of TMC in Goa, ends Mamata’s desire to play a bigger role in national politics?

Mamata's national ambition receives a jolt after TMC's poll debacle in Goa

The recently held assembly polls in five states have apparently brought AAP on the national political arena after the historic victory in Punjab, however, TMC, the Bengal-based party which was eying at playing a key role in national politics by making its presence felt strongly in Goa, has failed in fulfilling the desire.

Despite conducting rigorous campaigns in the coastal State for the polls, the party just could not meet the aspirations of the people of Goa, hence the party got rejected by the people.

Meanwhile, after the dismal performance of the party, the TMC’s leaders said that Mamata has no plan to join the national politics, however, she vehemently wants to bring the like-minded parties and leaders to fight against BJP for the next general elections.

“ The party entered the election stage of Goa just about three months before the announcements of polling dates. Since the party had limited time, the primary objective was to enter Goa politics and make people aware of the presence of TMC in Goa. However, in the coming days, the party will put up a big show and develop it at the grass-root level”, Kumal Ghosh, the party’s spokesperson.

Meanwhile, Mamata who is maintaining a clear distance from the Congress and showing no interest in extending or seeking support for a broader national alliance called for the unity of opposition parties minus the Congress.

“ We will get nothing if we try to depend on the Congress. The party has lost its powers. It is time for the regional parties to come under one roof to fight against the BJP”, she said.

Going a step further in an attempt to give a message that Congress is losing relevance in national politics, TMC leader Firhad Hakim advised Congress to simply merge with the TMC.

While the TMC was giving this ‘offer’  to the Congress, Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal is depicting his nation that his party will now fight in other States in order to spread its presence from Delhi and Punjab.

The victory in Punjab is now giving wings to AAP that it is now believed that the party can play a role of giving an alternate party to BJP at the national level.

Meanwhile, the political analysts believe that despite her party’s rousing victory in West Bengal against the BJP, TMC is unable to present itself as an alternate political party at the national level since the party made no impact among the voters in the assembly polls held in five states.
