Indian army colonel, his wife, son and four soldiers have been killed by terrorists in an ambush in Manipur this morning. It was one of the deadliest attacks in the region in recent years.
According to reports, the incident took place near the Myanmar border in Churachandpur district of Manipur around 10 am on Saturday, NDTV reported.
"Terrorists first carried out IED blast to ambush the convoy of 46 Assam Rifles Commanding Officer Colonel Viplav Tripathi and then fired at the vehicles in Churachandpur, Manipur. The officer was returning from his forward company base to his battalion headquarters, " security forces told news agency ANI.
Convoy of a Commanding Officer of an Assam Rifles unit ambushed by terrorists in Singhat sub-division of Manipur’s Churachandpur district. Family members of officer along with Quick Reaction Team were in convoy, reported news agency ANI.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the attack. He assured that perpetrators will be brought to justice. "Strongly condemn the cowardly attack on a convoy of 46 AR which has reportedly killed few personnel incl the CO and his family at Churachandpu today. State forces and Paramilitary already on their job to track down the militants. The perpetrators will be brought to justice", said Biren Singh.
